The District Hearing Resource Program is comprised of In-District and Provincial Out-Reach supports. Out-Reach professionals will assist with consultation support at the invitation of the SD#67 Director of Instruction.

Hearing Resource Teacher (HRT) primarily an auditory-verbal approach. Sign expertise when required is provided from Out-Reach consultation. The HRT assists in the planning and implementation of IEP (Individual Education Plan) goals. The HRT models and reinforces a range of specialist strategies/techniques/and equipment. Additional liaison with specialists and outside agencies (Doctors, Audiologists, Cochlear Implant Consultants, Ministry of Children and Families, Post Secondary Institutions, etc) is sometimes warranted. Regular ongoing collaboration with parents/guardians and teachers is fundamental to the success of our Hearing Resource Program. Oral Communication Facilitators a team of qualified staff who orally interpret or transliterate the teachers' spoken message. This allows the D/HH student to more readily speech read classroom instructions. Additional duties: Note taking Hearing aid/FM maintenance Monitor classroom acoustics Provide 1-1 review Comprehension rechecks Liaison with District HRT Visual Language Interpreter familiarity with ASL (American Sign Language) SEE (Signed Exact English) and CASE (Conceptually Accurate Signed English). The School District is currently working to build capacity and expand the number of qualified VLI support staff. Audiometric Technician provides annual hearing screening and follow up to District Kindergarten students (referrals from other grades upon request). |
