Technology
The range of assistive listening devices used in SD#67 classrooms is complex and extensive. The students' individual acoustic needs are determined by a qualified Audiometric assessment. Students are typically fit with appropriate hearing aids and/or cochlear implant technology.
These personal devices are then paired with FM systems on the advice of an Audiologist. In addition most classrooms catering to the Deaf/Hard of Hearing student are provided with a classroom soundfield system.
Technology for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing student is managed on a daily basis by in class support staff, eg.Oral Communication Facilitator/Visual Language Interpreter.
The range of products currently employed, includes:
Phonak Inspiro FM
Phonak iSense
Phonak iCom
Phonak Digimaster
Front Row to Go Infra-red classroom sound field systems
Front Row to Go - Radium classroom soundfield systems
Simeon soundfield systems
As a District we are grateful to many Community Service Clubs who have assisted schools and students with private funding. This has enabled families to purchase costly personal hearing aids for their children.
